Going to college in DC has been by far one of the best opportunities of my life. DC has given me a ton of choices in terms of interning in different fields and experiencing different industries. I currently intern at a marketing firm in Alexandria, Brightline Media, but I have had many internships over the years. Every semester brings new options as the GWork site fills up with job postings. But I have actually gotten most of my internships from my sisters! It is very common for Alumni to stay in the area after graduation, so many sisters have either worked previously for or currently work for a local firm that can't wait to hire a new Sigma Kappa! Zeta Chapter Alumni continuously serve as invaluable resources in internship and job searches in the DC area and beyond!
One other amazing thing about going to school in DC is the venues for our social events. Our chapter holds social events at exciting DC clubs in downtown areas and they are always a blast! Emerging our chapter social life with the lively social scene of DC ensures that there is never a boring weekend!

I am a senior at The George Washington University in Washington DC. Originally from Morristown, NJ, I enjoy reading, dancing, singing, traveling, and I love Broadway musicals! I am currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in Judaic Studies with a minor in Organizational Science. I spent last semester in Buenos Aires Argentina. As a religious school teacher at Temple Micah, I spend two afternoons and one Sunday morning every week with 11 and 12 year olds exploring their connection to Judaism. I work in the center of Georgetown and take the bus to work. I love this aspect of my life at school because it makes me feel like a part of the greater DC community.

Being a journalism major, DC is pretty much the best place for me to be. Last summer I had my favorite internship so far. It was at COX, a company that owns cable stations, internet, many newspapers across the country and acts as a wire service (like the Associated Press). I got the internship because my boss was one of my old journalism professors, and at the end of the semester he offered me the position. I was treated as a normal Washington Correspondent. Everyday I would come into the office, across the street from Capitol Hill in the same building as Fox, MSNBC and the like, and be sent on various assignments ranging from interviewing congressmen and senators to going to embassy events. It was an incredible experience that taught me so much about the world of Washington and being a political journalist. I was published more than 30 times in places like the Los Angeles TImes, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Dayton Daily, and Palm Beach Post. The picture attached is of me at event in the Rose Garden of the White House, when then President Bush was welcoming Olympic athletes and wishing them luck.

Living in DC for the past few years has given me so many opportunities. I have tried my best to take advantage of all that being in a city has to offer. I have had the chance to intern at a few different places in DC. My sophomore year I interned at Pinerock, a business communications firm that uses dynamic learning and entertaining experiences to deliver messages to key audiences. Pinerock designs, develops, and delivers corporate meetings, events, and learning and performance programs. I took part in a variety of projects that gave me insight into the communications field. One of my more recent internships was with the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable. I actually found out about the internship through a fellow SK and worked alongside other SK’s Carol- Ann Moccio and Jacquelyn Vinnedge. The National Pollution Prevention Roundtable provides a national forum for promoting the development, implementation, and evaluation of efforts to avoid, eliminate, or reduce pollution at the source. Living in DC has exposed me to a variety of professional choices from corporate offices to non-profit organizations. Regardless I what I am looking to do I always start my search for a new job or internship with my Sigma Kappa sisters because chances are there is someone who can help. I love how Sigma Kappa’s are always ready and excited to share their work experiences with present and future sisters!

Working and living in DC has given me free access to a whole range of
interesting projects and opportunities. This summer, I am interning
with the American Diabetes Association (ADA), working primarily as
their Special Events Coordinator under the Regional Marketing Manager.
Responsible for communicating with the District's biggest
corporations, firms, and businesses, I aim to generate funds and
enthusiasm to find a cure for Diabetes and prepare supporters for the
annual Step Out Walk coming up this October. Along with the ADA, I
spend time volunteering with Women for Women International, an
organization focused on supporting women and girls in countries
devastated by war.

This Summer I am an intern at the Greater Washington Sports Alliance a few blocks away from campus at 18th and I Street. My job here along with the other interns is to help market the DC area as a destination for amateur, collegiate, and professional sporting events, help research and analyze local, national and global sporting events and assist in event production and promotion. This is very different from my last job at a lobbying firm, but i would be happy to pass either of these internships along to other Sigma Kappas in the future!

I have been fortunate enough to have a wide variety of professional experiences in DC. Last summer I was a membership and marketing intern for the American Association of Political Consultants. There I ran my own membership marketing campaign earning over $27,000 in just under four weeks. It was an amazing opportunity and provided me with so many valuable contacts in the political consulting field and the best part was passing this amazing opportunity to another Sigma Kappa! This summer, I was able to take on an internship passed down by over five Sigma Kappas at the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable. There I did public relations support and development for memberships, grants, and contracts. During the school year, I also worked at my one my favorite restaurants, the Melting Pot. I wanted my sisters to have in on the fun, so I planned a chocolate-fondue sisterhood night where we all had an amazing time eating delicious fondue!

As a Freshman at GW I was eager to get my feet wet. SK is my first
love but I am also involved in other campus organizations. I am a
member of the G-dub Women's Ultimate team (10-0 eastern conference
record!), a writer for our wonderful campus newspaper, the Hatchet, a
freshman seminars CBC guide, and a board member at Hillel. Outside of
school actvities I am also pretty busy. I worked at a Hebrew school in
Bethesda as a song leader and Judaica/Hebrew teacher for 7th graders.
Finally, I was also lucky to intern for UpSpring PR, SK alums '09
Tiffany Tabar and Sara Nelkin's luxury PR firm. I had such a blast
working with SKs and am so proud of these amazing women. My first year
in DC was fabulous and I can't wait to see everyone in the fall!
