Hi everyone, I’m Tory Sheehan, and I’ll be the New Member Educator for PC 2010! We are so excited to welcome the newest members of Sigma Kappa this fall. Here is a look at our events from 2009:
Bid Day: We’re on a Boat!
After the newest members of Sigma Kappa accept their bids, they went to University Yard where they were greeted by the rest of the chapter, who were singing and chanting Sigma Kappa songs! Later in the evening, the new members and sisters went on a cruise on the Potomac River. Everyone bonded over appetizers, music and dancing, and a gorgeous view of DC. This event was a great experience for everyone, and was the beginning of many great friendships among the new members in PC ’09, but also among the new members and sisters.
Big/Little Reveal Night
Situated at the end of Big/Little Week, which is one of Sigma Kappa’s most exciting and suspenseful traditions, Big/Little Reveal Night is an official SK ceremony when the new members find out who their Big Sister is. During this past year, the new members of PC ’09 found out who their Big Sisters were on this night, and were also introduced to the rest of their Sigma Kappa family, including Grand-Bigs, Great-Grand-Bigs, and beyond! Big/Little Reveal Night is a night unlike any other, as it begins the incredibly special friendship tie between each Big/Little pair.
Inspiration Week
Inspiration Week occurs at the very end of the New Member process; it is a fun-filled week of bonding activities, aimed to strengthen the bond and solidify the feeling of sisterhood among all new members. One of the enjoyable games played during Inspiration Week was the “Ha-Ha” game, which encouraged new members to work together to accomplish a goal, while having a ton of fun at the same time! Another game, called the Ribbon Toss, aims to recognize each sister in Sigma Kappa. To play the game, the new members and sisters assemble in a circle and take turns tossing a spool of ribbon to someone else, declaring why that person is a good sister. Inspiration Week is full of fun, memorable, and meaningful games, and is a great way to bring an end to the New Member process.
